As we age, our skin also undergoes the natural process of ageing and begins to show signs like wrinkles, lines, saggy skin on face and neck, pigmentation and hollowness on the face and under the eyes. Of all the signs of ageing mentioned, saggy skin is the most undesirable among patients and the one that they always want to treat first.
Are you desperate for safe and effective treatments for saggy skin? Many of my patients are, so here are 15 facts will surely help you understand everything about saggy skin and what you can do about it.
1. Our skin begins to sag as we age. It’s a fact.
Collagen is the protein that is most abundant in the human skin where its main function is to maintain the tightness of the skin. As we grow old, the rate of collagen production in our skin decreases resulting in the skin losing its tightness and begins to sag over time.
2. Sagging skin affects a person’s appearance.
Sagging skin can often change the shape of the face to a more masculine squarely shape which can sometimes make a woman look like a man. Sagging skin can also make a woman to look chubby and most of the time can be very unflattering. In addition, a person’s facial expressions can be affected as the sagging skin can cause your face and lips to droop.
3. Unfortunately, sagging skin is inevitable.
Research has shown that collagen loss is inevitable as we age, and even surgical facelift procedures cannot hinder the decline of collagen production in the skin as a person grows old.
In most cases, the effects of facelift surgery only last from up to 10 years — and because of the skin’s natural ageing process, your skin will start to show signs of sagging again over time.
4. Thankfully, there are safe ways to treat sagging skin.
Not a lot of people are too keen to go under the knife for a facelift. If there is a safer alternative to surgical procedures, many patients usually grab that option.
In Singapore, one of the most popular and proven safe and effective ways to tighten sagging skin is the Ultraformer HIFU Facelift.
Ultraformer is an advanced non-invasive technology that uses high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) to treat leading signs of ageing like sagging skin.
5. Ultraformer HIFU Facelift Works.
With the use of High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU), Ultraformer creates a lifting effect on the skin by focusing the ultrasound energy to the target areas and induce collagen production underneath the skin layers.
Over time, the skin starts to tighten as the new collagen begins to form and give structure to the shape of the skin. Ultraformer can also melt fats (at a high intensity) in unwanted areas such as jowls of the face or double chin.
6. Not everyone is a good candidate for Ultraformer HIFU Facelift.
Before committing to Ultraformer Facelift, it is important to have a consultation with your doctor to make sure that you are a candidate for the treatment.
Not all patients are good candidates for Ultraformer Facelift because in some cases, other facelift procedures like laser, radiofrequency or injectables are more suitable and creates better lifting results.
7. Consultations are very important.
Consultation is a must before any treatment. During a consultation, your doctor will be able to determine the best type of facelift that will work for you as well as also discuss how the treatment will be performed and what results to expect.
If your doctor does not have a wide range of facelift options, better be cautious because he/she may only be selling the specific type of treatment and do not really care about how your skin will react to that treatment.
8. Presently, there are three available versions of Ultraformer.
At present, there are three versions of Ultraformer that are available in the cosmetic scene. These are the Ultraformer 1, Ultraformer 2 and Ultraformer 3. Given that there are three versions available, this can be very misleading to some patients.
In some cases, there are clinics that offer Ultraformer 3 treatments and even charge you for that type of treatment but in actuality, they are using the Ultraformer 2 or the Ultraformer 1 machine.
Ultraformer 3 Facelift is more expensive for a reason because it creates better and longer lasting results than the first two versions. In addition, with Ultraformer 3, there is lesser pain and minimal downtime.
To make sure that you get the correct treatment with what you are paying for, always ask your doctor what version of Ultraformer they are using. A trustworthy doctor or clinic will not hide anything from their patients.
9. What to expect during Ultraformer Facelift Procedure?
Before the facelift treatment, your doctor will first apply a numbing cream to the treatment area to help ease discomfort during the procedure. In general, there will be multiple ultrasound shots that will be delivered into different layers of the skin. Briefly, Ultraformer HIFU is administered into the skin the following order:
- 1st round: Targeted at the top 1.5mm of the skin (superficial dermis)
- 2nd round: Targeted at 3.0mm into the skin (deep dermis)
- 3rd round: Targeted at 4.5mm SMAS skin layer (Superficial Musculoaponeurotic System)
With Ultraformer, the deep tissue layers targeted for a surgical facelift (SMAS) is reached without going under the knife. This results in an effective skin tightening of the skin in the inner layers.
10. Is Ultraformer Facelift Painful?
During the Procedure:
Before undergoing facelifts all my patients usually only have 1 thing on their minds: what is the pain like? With Ultraformer facelift, it cannot be denied that there will be some discomfort during the procedure since the HIFU is a form of energy that will be delivered into the skin.
You can expect the level of discomfort to be higher when the HIFU is delivered into the deeper skin layers and in areas with bony structures like the cheekbones and jaws.
At the end of the day, pain threshold can really vary from person to person but with Ultraformer, most patients are able to tolerate the discomfort form the procedure without local anaesthesia or sedation and application of numbing cream is usually enough to make for a smooth and procedure.
Right after the Procedure:
Right after the procedure, patients might feel a slight aching sensation on the jawline and cheekbones as well as minor swelling on the treated areas.
11. Ultraformer HIFU Facelift is a quick procedure.
The total duration of the Ultraformer HIFU Facelift may take about less than an hour. This already includes the consultation, prepping and the procedure proper.
For the entire procedure, it will only take approximately 20-30 minutes to perform. Some patients even undergo treatment during their lunch breaks and return to work in the afternoon without any problems.
12. You can see immediate results with Ultraformer HIFU Facelift.
Immediate results can already be felt right after the treatment. The full effect of the Ultraformer HIFU Facelift will be more noticeable after 2-3 months as the new collagen will have already been formed by this time resulting in a tighter, firmer and toned skin! Your face will have its youthful contour and feminine shape once again.
13. You only need one session of Ultraformer HIFU Facelift to achieve results.
For most patients, one treatment is usually sufficient. However, after about 5 months from your initial treatment, a second session may be needed for best results. Ultraformer HIFU's effects last up to a year and it is advisable to undergo the procedure again when the patient begins to feel the effects of the facelift wear off.
14. Mini-HIFUs are not similar to Ultraformer HIFUs.
No, they are not. Mini-HIFUs split HIFU treatments into multiple mini-HIFU treatments resulting in cheaper costs. To this day, there are no proven studies that can support the splitting of HIFU treatments into multiple treatments to be effective.
One mini-HIFU session costs about $150-250. Compared with appropriate HIFU facelifts like the Ultraformer which can cost between $750-850, mini-HIFU is a very affordable cost for a cosmetic procedure — no wonder why a lot of patients are willing to try it.
However, based on the patient’s experience, they do not see significant results, so they undergo more and more sessions. In the long run, you spend more money with multiple ineffective mini-HIFU treatments compared with one single complete HIFU treatments that work.
15. As a final tip, make sure you choose the right doctor.
These following are the things you need to consider before committing to a doctor or clinic for your treatment:
- Do they have extensive training and experience with Ultraformer HIFU Facelift procedure?
- Are they able to can communicate effectively and able to help you understand the procedure?
- Can they provide you with expected results and after-care tips?
- Are they willing to show you before and after pictures of their previous work?
As with any medical procedure, the most important factor that will determine the success of your treatment would be your doctor’s skills and expertise. Before getting Ultraformer HIFU Facelift, make sure first that your doctor have the required credentials and training to perform the procedure.
